Social & Emotional Wellbeing
It is easy to feel overwhelmed in everyday life, and sometimes it helps to have someone to yarn to before things build up. Our Mental Health and Youth Mental Health programs support people with practical strategies, emotional support and referrals to GPs, psychologists and other health professionals.
Our Youth Mental Health program supports young people up to 18 years of age and offers flexible support that can be delivered at school, at home or from our offices. The program helps young people build coping strategies and work through challenges in their social or family environment.
Support can include personal support, advocacy, referrals, housing support, court support, transport to appointments, education support, medical support, programs and workshops, leadership camps and social support.
Our Alcohol and Other Drugs program supports people affected by alcohol and drug use at any stage.
If you feel alcohol or other drugs are becoming hard to manage, our team is here to provide support and guidance. We take a holistic, person-centred approach that focuses on reducing harm and supporting healthier outcomes for individuals, families and Community.
Support can include crisis and support services, counselling, preventative and addiction treatment, culturally appropriate health information and advice, referrals to specialists, and support for families and Community.
DWECH Integrated Family Services supports families in the Portland area.
Our program aims to strengthen families by working alongside them to identify challenges, build on strengths and support parenting capacity in a way that is respectful and practical.
Thookay-Tya Keerna-Ke, meaning Children Gathering, is a playgroup where children and their families can come together in a safe environment to laugh, play and learn while staying culturally focused through in-language songs and activities.
The playgroup is based at 14–18 Wellington Road and includes morning tea, excursions, family support, indoor and outdoor activities, and transport to and from playgroup.
DWECH also offers weekly Youth, Women’s and Men’s Groups.
These groups create opportunities for connection, support and community participation in a welcoming and culturally safe environment.
