About SEWB

DWECH’s Social and Emotional Wellbeing services provide a safe and supportive space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community members. Our team is here to help people through life’s challenges with care that is respectful, culturally safe and centred around each person’s needs.

We understand that everyone’s journey is different. That is why we take the time to listen, understand what support is needed, and work alongside each person in a way that feels right for them.

Child Safety Statement

DWECH is a Child Safe Organisation where children are safe, supported and respected as individuals.

We promote the safety and best interest of the children we work with, recognising additional vulnerabilities for some children.

We promote: cultural safety of Aboriginal children; cultural safety of children from culturally and linguistically diverse communities; safety of children with a disability.

How we support Community

Our Social and Emotional Wellbeing team supports people through a wide range of services and programs. This includes emotional support, advocacy, referrals, practical help and access to culturally safe care.

We are fortunate to work alongside psychologist Daryl Hobbs two days a week. He supports Community with a strong focus on trauma care and works closely with our SEWB team. We can also help with appointments and provide support during the process if needed.

Referrals & Intake

You can self-refer and reach out to our team whenever you feel you need support. Referrals can also come from family members or other service providers.

Our intake process is completed in a culturally safe environment. It helps us understand the support and services you may need, while also setting goals with your Support Worker. From there, we can work with you to identify the right supports and next steps.

Ngootyoong Mara Healing Centre

Based in Julia Street, Portland, the Ngootyoong Mara Cultural Healing Centre is the hub for our Social and Emotional Wellbeing team and programs.

The Centre promotes culturally focused activities and gatherings and provides a welcoming space for Community connection, healing and support.
